Emergency procedures: Initial response and command
The METHANE model is a structured reporting framework for responders and control rooms to share incident information.
METHANE should be used for major incidents. Where an incident falls below the threshold for a major incident, the model becomes ETHANE.
Responders and control room staff should use this model to record information about all incidents and keep these records up to date as the incident develops. All relevant information should be shared with other responding agencies.
The model goes through:
- Major incident declaration
- Exact location
- Type of incident
- Hazards
- Access
- Number of casualties
- Emergency services required
