Latest changes to APP

Overview of the latest changes to APP.

APP is subject to review (either scheduled or triggered) in consultation with the relevant National Policing Business Area. All amendments go through a review process and further information is available from contactus@college.police.uk

More detailed changes to APP content may be recorded separately by the the APP team. If you require a copy of APP as it was on a particular date (for example, for an enquiry) please email contactcentre@college.police.uk. All requests must be approved by the relevant Policing Standards Manager.

Latest changes to APP

Major investigation and public protection > Domestic abuse Using domestic violence protection notices and domestic violence protection orders to make victims safer

In the introduction section, the line for further information was amended to delete date and the word 'interim'. The link was also deleted and replaced with the correct, working link.

Changes were made twice, once to DVPN then DVPO sections. These changes were:

  • On National Domestic Violence Helpline it states (Run by Refuge and Women's Aid). Deleted Women's Aid.
  • CPS Domestic Abuse Guidelines - Annex D - National support organisations - changed this to the correct Annex E and updated the link.

4 broken links fixed, all to internal checklists. Protecting the scene, statement of the first officer at the scene, DVPO application, role of the specialist domestic abuse officer.

The section under 'Specific management considerations when dealing with police perpetrators of domestic abuse' has been deleted and replaced with new text. These changes were required due to a super-complaint investigation. 

Policing elections Key roles and planning

The amendments made on the 28/06/24 included an addition of a paragraph (second) under the heading 'Candidates and campaigners'. 

Very minimal grammatical changes were recommended but were not made at this time due to urgency of the update. These have now been changed:

  • s.30 was changed to section 30
  • note: schedule 9 - the 'note:' prefix was removed
  • being elected - changed to 'being elected to office', Oxford comma removed.

Paragraph (below) removed from section titled 'Optical sights and observation equipment'. 

Dstl has produced a document that will help forces choose an appropriate sighting system: HOSDB (2001) Optical sights for use with Police Firearms 06/01. (Available to authorised members of the police service on request, see Dstl (opens an external website in the same tab).)
