Radio frequency propagation survey (RFPS) is the practice of measuring cellular and wifi radio transmissions and matching them against call data to help determine where a mobile phone or wifi-enabled device was located at a particular time.

Aims

​To equip learners with the skills to plan and carry out RFPS surveys and to present findings both in an evidential report and in court.

Objectives

​Learners who successfully complete the course will be able to:

  • describe the role and responsibilities of the RFPS technician
  • understand and explain network, cellular and wifi data principles
  • describe the process for planning a survey
  • demonstrate the practical use of tools in carrying out a survey
  • identify the steps taken to create a radio frequency survey report and demonstrate preparation and presentation of results 

Methods of delivery

​The course includes both theory and practical elements. The course is trainer-led and delivered to a maximum of eight delegates.

Knowledge of communications data and experience of using Microsoft Excel.

​Officers and staff undertaking the role of RFPS technician within a dedicated unit or who have responsibilities for carrying out radio frequency surveys as part of their role
