Right Care Right Person toolkit

We've created RCRP e-learning for police officers and staff that covers:

  • what RCRP is and why it's important
  • the legal basis for RCRP
  • scenarios to support understanding of the types of call that fall within RCRP

The e-learning is available to all forces via the College Learn platform (you will need to register and log in).

Learning outcomes

The aim of the e-learning is for learners to be able to:

  • explain what Right Care Right Person (RCRP) is and the reasons (practical and ethical) for its introduction
  • outline the core role and responsibilities of the police in relation to legal duty (ECHR) and common law duty of care
  • identify situations where the police has a legal duty to respond to calls for service
  • identify situations where, following RCRP principles, the police may not respond to calls
  • identify situations that are not within the remit of RCRP and there is no duty to attend, where the police may choose to respond to calls
