CPD events – senior and executive leaders

CPD events for police officers and staff working at chief inspector level and above.

Senior police staff network

The Senior Police Staff Network (SPSN) supports and highlights the work that staff across all policing organisations do to help achieve the best for policing. The network and these events are aimed at police staff at stage 3 of the Leadership standards (currently in middle management positions or higher) who are aspiring to stage 4, and those currently at stage 4 or 5.

The network holds quarterly events, virtually and in person. The events provide opportunities to network and learn from experienced senior police staff guest speakers, to support you in your CPD and help maximise your future career options.

Contact hub@college.police.uk to sign up for email updates about how to register for upcoming network events and secondment opportunities.

Prioritising yourself for professional impact

How do we make the best use of what we have available to us as police staff to make the most of our professional impact?

This is a common challenge we face when trying to decide our career next steps. We will hear from a number of speakers who will be joining us to tell us their tips and tricks for prioritising to get the best for their teams and themselves.

Joining us for this session is:

  • Ruth Colman, a Senior Staff Officer from the Civil Nuclear Constabulary, who will be speaking about her very varied career journey starting as a contracted agency worker and now working directly for the Chief Constable
  • Paul Blenkinsopp, the Leadership Academy Learning Manager from Avon and Somerset Police, will speak to us about how to get the best out of organisational learning, particularly through his leadership map, which we heard about in 2023
  • Gav Edgar from Police Scotland, returning by popular demand, Gav will lead us though an art of influence session touching on influence versus manipulation, building credibility, confidence and trust and effective communication

Organised immigration crime and online harms: a growing threat

Join our upcoming webinar to explore two critical and emerging threats in the UK’s crime landscape: organised immigration crime (OIC) and online harms.

Led by DCC Wendy Gunney, NPCC lead for serious organised crime, this session will provide an overview of these complex issues, the impact and threats they pose to young people and communities, and the collaborative strategies needed to address them.

Online harms encompasses a wide range of malicious activities occurring in digital spaces, including cybercrime, exploitation, and ‘the com’ – a relatively recent term used by offenders to describe an online and international subculture of networks. The challenge for law enforcement lies in their borderless, technologically-driven nature, which requires a coordinated and multi-jurisdictional response.

Organised immigration crime within the UK is an increasing threat, with law enforcement under growing pressure to identify and disrupt these activities. Given the ongoing political, media, and community concerns, our response is critical.

In this session, leads from serious organised crime and counter terrorism policing will:

  • share their assessment of the threat posed by online harms
  • seek to build a collective response for early identification
  • introduce Operation Lockstream, the UK’s organised immigration crime domestic taskforce
  • outline the current threat picture and operational plans related to organised immigration crime
