While I've been here, I've done more training courses in the last five years to develop myself in my career and as a person than I have done in the last, you know, 10 or 15 years of my career.
In terms of the work, the work is enjoyable, it's varied. Everything from, in terms of my role, video-based work, filming. We do a lot of graphic work, illustration, post-production. So you don't get stuck to one particular kind of duty or role. You know, you kind of jump from one to the other and it is definitely fun, I have to admit.

Over the last couple of years, as I'm sure has been the case for many people, we've been responding to the pandemic and within the College, we've been responsible for drafting guidance that helps officers understand the legislation around COVID policing. That was work we were doing at very quick pace. Sometimes we were getting the legislation on a Friday afternoon and it would be going live 4am on the Monday morning.
That was something I was very proud to be in, not necessarily because it was a sort of core part of my role. It was pulling together people from across the College to work in quite exceptional circumstances.

Working at the College, I think I feel pride every day, actually. I feel like what we do within the College is helping in policing. We deliver the training and we set standards. So every day I come in, I feel proud of what I do for the College.

I have a really good work-life balance here, so flexi-time has enabled me to be able to sort of clock off early or to start a bit later to work towards my qualifications. So at the moment, I'm doing a postgrad diploma in Library and Information Studies to kind of further my professional development in my career.

I have to admit, actually in the past few years, my life has changed. My personal life has changed, I’ve become a single mother of two. And without the flexibility of the College, I actually don't know where I'd be. I have the flexibility to be there for my children when they come home from school. Being able to work maybe later in the evenings if I need to take the kids somewhere or do and help them with their schooling.
So I think that's one of the biggest draws for me is that I'm able to get a real work-life balance working here.

So whether you're thinking of a secondment or a full-time post, the College offers tremendous opportunities to influence really, really important national issues. It provides an opportunity to work on a number of areas with a number of different stakeholders and interest groups. And it's all with a common goal of helping the police get better, supporting the police to do their role, and ultimately to make the public safer.
