The following definitions explain references made within this guidance. 

Public military events (PMEs)

Events that military services organise or participate in, about which the general public has prior knowledge and to which they have access. PMEs cover civil events with military participation.

Royalty and specialist protection events 

Involving protected people or events designated as such by the police strategic protection commander. 

High-profile events

Events, including those organised by political parties, councils, local government agencies and national government departments. These can be single events, a series of events, or events organised in conjunction with others.
