Debriefing

The counter terrorism (CT) security coordinator should conduct, or be party to, a structured debriefing, particularly following large, complex or unusual security operations to identify learning. For example:

  • problems which emerged in the CT protective security plan or its delivery
  • how the unforeseen was dealt with
  • any new methods, suggestions or good practice

Review

To ensure sharing of operational practice, the Knowledge Hub (you will need to log in) should be used to disseminate learning from structured debriefs to CT security coordinator practitioners across the UK.

Adopting a structured debrief will identify learning, including what worked well in areas such as:

  • communications
  • command and control structure
  • adequacy and type of resources
  • contingencies, if initiated
  • performance and adequacy of equipment
